Next to Nothing

Hello all

Just a quick post for those who may find themselves in the Glasgow area in the next few weeks. The collective I work with, Black Dogs, have a publication and exhibition currently on show in the wonderful +44 141 gallery called Next To Nothing, looking at the idea of value in art and artistic making, and it includes two of my works (see above). Or as someone a bit more quick witted than I put it:

'DIY art collective Black Dogs presents the second installment of their Next to Nothing publication and exhibition, the first outing of which took place in an empty shop unit in Leeds in October this year with contributions from over thirty individuals and collectives. The contributors occupy various positions in relation to the label ‘artist’; raising questions about when something is art, who can make it and what the worth of calling it art is anyway.'

It runs until 02.12.11, Wednesday to Saturday 12:00 - 18:00 here:

BYE!

T.H.I.S is it...

Greetings all, I trust you are ok?

Just a quick message to firstly thank all that came down to the opening of the '100 Years' exhibition at Tottenham Hale International Studios (T.H.I.S), picked up a publication and had a drink with us. It was a swell evening.

And for those that were unable to see the show on the opening night, this is a gentle reminder that it is open for one more day this Monday 31st October, 11am - 6pm. Amongst many excellent pieces from my studio colleagues my new work 'Totem Palm' is on show and it looks a little something like this:

Where is T.H.I.S? It's 5 mins walk from Tottenham Hale tube on the Victoria Line HERE. Best

Black Dogs presents

Unlearned Tricks: A night of improvised music, art and general dog play

Sunday 24 July 2011

19.00 - 23.00
The Constitution
42 St Pancras Way
London
NW1 0QT

Join us on the final night of the Camden Players festival to enjoy an evening of wholesomely bizarre and entertaining music, performance and artists' film selected and presented by art collective Black Dogs. Featuring performances from Sly and the Family Drone, the Black Dogs Ensemble, the Peter J. Taylor Guitar Orchestra, Stockpot Stopcock, Patrick Coyle, and more, Black Dogs will celebrate and conclude this month-long cultural adventure through Camden in a suitably reflective and mysterious manner.

Black Dogs is an art collective formed in 2003 in Leeds with a core membership of ten artists based in Leeds, Bradford, London and Milton Keynes. They operate as a DIY, not-for-profit organisation with an output which has included formal exhibitions, relational and participatory installations, public events and interventions, publications, video, audio works, and collaborative learning projects. Black Dogs' activities shift between social practice and art and through the structure and operation of the group ideas of collaboration, not-for-profit motives, and self-organised approaches to artistic practice are continually explored and developed.

Hello people of computer world

So as is always the case, following on from Flatstock in the MegAmericas and Poster Roast in Landan Tarn, I will be off with some of my poster pals to the wonderful  city of Liverpool for Screenadelica as part of the Sound City music festival. It's on from 3pm on Thursday 19th, Friday 20th and Saturday 21st and if its anything like last year it should be a massive barrel of laugh apples for everyone to munch on. When the apples have been eaten we can then save the pips and use these to grow more apples for next years barrel.

And to top it all off, it's FREE which means if you hate music you don't need to buy a Sound City wristband to come and see the show and buy posters. And if you really hate music, why not pretend the bands names littering the beautiful posters being exhibited are actually the names of obscure literary marvels, pretentious critcal theorists or a friend of yours who changed their name for a bet.

On to the real world actual fact-mation from the Horse's mouth (that is only amusing if you know that the person running it works under the moniker Horse. which you do now so go back and re-read it and titter at how drole i am):

Screenadelica

34 Slater Street (former International/Art Organisation Gallery), Liverpool, UK

Screenadelica is a gig poster exhibition, celebrating the art of the screen printed gig poster, held during Liverpool Sound City festival. Playing host to both UK and international artists, Liverpool shall see a wide variety of styles promoting the bands the artists love, inspired by the music they hear. With digital download taking over the music scene, the desire to still own something physical makes the screen printed poster ...all the more important, driving artists to create pieces of art for each show which encapsulates the music in their eyes. This then means that rather than one artist representing the bands sound, they get a whole range of interpretations of their music thru the screen printed gig poster.

The actual exhibition is open from 3pm daily.

Confirmed exhibiting artists include:

Luke Drozd, WeThreeClub, Army of Cats, Nick Rhodes, Tiny Little Horse, Michael Cowell, Horse, Paul Rafferty, Craig Robson & John Biddle

We will have live t-shirt screenprinting during the show where you can have a go at printing your own shirt featuring one of 4 specially designed images which will be available at this show only!

THIS EVENT IS FREE TO ENTER

The gallery space shall also play host to a bar and will have a specially curated line up of bands and visuals featuring:

THURSDAY FROM 8PM

NLF3(france), NASSER(france), MORE THAN CONQUERORS(irl), A TIME FOR BURNING, THIS IS TWO

FRIDAY FROM 8PM

SOCIAL SUICIDE, DZ DEATHRAYS(nz), VASCO DA GAMA, I AM AUSTIN

SATURDAY FROM 8PM

APPLE CANNON, JAZZ HANDS, DEEP SEA ARCADE(aus)

Posters Fo' Sho' on show for sure.

Poster Roast returns!

Pr_montagev3
Ahoy travellers of the turbulent interwaves,

So yes, as the title clearly suggests, Poster Roast does indeed return. For those of you not familiar with Poster Roast, it's a series of exhibitions and events created by WeThreeClub that aims to showcase the best of the bestest of UK poster art....and my work. The events tend to feature live printing and music and a slew of affordable screenprints for the public to take home in their sweaty paws. Sounds good right? Well the next one is nearly upon us, bearing down on us like...a bear.

I will now attempt to pre-empt some of the questions racing through your collective minds. You will be represented in bold.

When and where will this 'Poster Roast' be?

Good question, it will be at this years Camden Crawl, in Camden, London at the Camden Arms pub in, err, Camden. This will take place on Saturday 30th April and Sunday 1st May from 11.30am - 7pm, straddling the two months and truly beckoning in Spring.

Do I need a ticket to Camden Crawl to get into Poster Roast?

Yes you do. Information about this can be read with your eyes at on the Camden Crawl website

So which popular beat combos will be getting the kids jiving at this shindig (who's playing)?

We have the wonderful Sauna Youth and Great Ancestors on the Saturday and the splendid Blacklisters and These Monsters on the Sunday. 'Strong', as the youth might say.

Can I read more about this and other Poster Roast events on the Internet Information Super Web-way (IISWW)?

Yes.

Where?

Here.

Thanks, I think you've answered all my questions.

Ok maybe see you there then?

Maybe, i'm not sure, I'm quite busy at the moment....
